Primary & Preventive Medical Care

The People’s Health & Wellness Clinic offers free, patient-centered care focused on maintaining health and managing illness. Our services include:

  • Routine primary and preventive health care

  • Management of acute and chronic conditions

  • Prescription medications and support accessing medications

  • Referrals to medical specialists when needed

  • Laboratory services and diagnostic testing

  • Vision screening and referrals for further care

  • STI (sexually transmitted infection) testing

  • Smoking cessation counseling

  • Breast and cervical cancer screening

  • Cardiovascular risk screening and support


Oral Health Care

Our dental program helps patients maintain oral health and address urgent issues, including:

  • Oral health education and hygiene guidance

  • Routine cleanings (prophylaxis) on-site

  • Full-mouth deep cleanings for those in need

  • Cavity (caries) stabilization

  • Tooth extractions

  • Digital x-rays (bite-wing and panoramic)

  • Sealants to prevent tooth decay

  • Topical fluoride applications for strengthening teeth


Mental Health Care

We offer compassionate mental health support to help you navigate life’s challenges. Services include:

  • Short-term mental health counseling and emotional support

  • Referrals to mental health professionals for ongoing care


Enrollment & Benefits Assistance

We help PHWC patients enroll in health coverage, access financial assistance, and navigate the social service system through partnerships with state agencies and local nonprofits, including:

  • Vermont Health Connect plans

  • Medicaid

  • You First

  • Pharmacy assistance programs

  • Hospital financial assistance at CVMC, UVMMC, Gifford, and Dartmouth-Hitchcock

  • Food, housing, transportation, and other essential social services


Eligibility for Services

People's Health & Wellness Clinic provides health care for people who are uninsured or underinsured, and can’t afford to pay for needed care, including high deductibles. You are eligible for our services if you:

  • Don’t have health insurance (including Medicaid and Medicare), or

  • Your health insurance has a high deductible (greater than 7.5% of your household income), or

  • Your health insurance doesn’t pay for certain services, such as oral health care, massage therapy, counseling, etc., and

  • Your household income is less than 400% of the Federal Poverty Level – proof of income is required.

  • You may be eligible for other health care programs. We can assist you with the application and enrollment process, help you find a primary care practitioner, and continue to provide care during the transition.
