Director of Clinical Services
People’s Health & Wellness Clinic | Barre, Vermont
Help lead a different kind of health care.
The People’s Health & Wellness Clinic (PHWC) is seeking a Director of Clinical Services to lead and help grow our medical and wellness programs serving uninsured and underinsured Vermonters.
PHWC is a free clinic - and that means we do things differently. Our patients never receive a bill. Our clinical team brings together paid staff and an extraordinary group of volunteer doctors, nurses, and other health professionals who believe everyone deserves access to compassionate, high-quality health care.
We are looking for a licensed health care professional who is excited about both patient care and leadership and wants to help build a welcoming, creative, community-based approach to health care.
This is not a desk job. Our Director of Clinical Services is an active part of the clinic - working with patients, supporting providers, solving problems, leading staff and volunteers, and helping determine how we can serve more people who otherwise might go without care.
What You'll Do
As Director of Clinical Services, you will:
Lead the day-to-day delivery of PHWC's medical and wellness services.
Provide direct patient care and medical case management.
Supervise and support clinical staff.
Coordinate, support, and help recruit PHWC's volunteer doctors, nurses, and other clinical providers.
Oversee clinical workflows and help determine the appropriate scope and capacity of our clinics.
Work closely with PHWC's volunteer Medical Director on clinical decision-making, patient safety, and quality of care.
Develop and improve clinical policies, procedures, and workflows.
Lead quality-improvement efforts.
Help staff and volunteers navigate complex patient needs and challenging situations with compassion and appropriate boundaries.
Work closely with our Office Manager and Community Resource Manager & Volunteer Coordinator to make sure clinical care, patient navigation, volunteers, and clinic operations work together.
Partner with the Executive Director on staffing, program development, clinical strategy, and opportunities to expand access to care.
Build strong relationships with hospitals, health care providers, community organizations, and other partners throughout Central Vermont.
Who We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who combines clinical experience, leadership, compassion, flexibility, and a collaborative approach to their work.
The right person will be comfortable working with patients whose lives may be complicated by poverty, homelessness, substance use, behavioral health needs, trauma, lack of insurance, or other barriers to health care.
You should believe deeply that every patient deserves to be treated with dignity and respect - regardless of their income, insurance status, identity, background, or circumstances.
Qualifications include:
Current Vermont licensure as a health care professional.
Clinical experience, with experience in primary care, community health, free clinics, FQHCs, or other safety-net settings strongly preferred.
Experience supervising clinical staff and/or coordinating multidisciplinary clinical teams.
Strong communication, organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
Experience working with volunteer health care providers is a plus.
A commitment to accessible health care and the mission of free and charitable clinics.
