Position Title: Medical Director (Volunteer, Part-Time)
About PHWC
The People’s Health & Wellness Clinic (PHWC) in Barre, Vermont, provides free primary medical, dental, mental health, and wellness services to uninsured and underinsured adults in Central Vermont. We are a community-based, nonprofit clinic committed to removing barriers to care and addressing the social determinants of health.
Position Summary
The Medical Director is a volunteer clinical leader who provides oversight, guidance, and support for PHWC’s medical services. Working in collaboration with the Executive Director, Director of Clinical Services, volunteer providers, and the Board of Directors, the Medical Director ensures that PHWC delivers high-quality, patient-centered, and safe care. This is a part-time role requiring a flexible time commitment of approximately 6–10 hours per month.
Key Responsibilities
Provide medical leadership and clinical oversight for PHWC’s volunteer providers and staff.
Ensure compliance with clinical policies, protocols, and quality assurance standards.
Collaborate with the Executive Director and Director of Clinical Services on clinical program development, patient safety, and risk management.
Serve as a resource and mentor for volunteer clinicians and support staff.
Assist in provider recruitment and retention, including outreach to local physicians, nurse practitioners, and other medical professionals.
Participate in periodic meetings of the Board of Directors and the Clinic’s Health & Wellness Committee.
Represent PHWC in the community and with partner organizations as appropriate.
Qualifications
Licensed physician (MD or DO) or NP in good standing in the State of Vermont.
Experience in primary care, family medicine, or internal medicine preferred.
Commitment to PHWC’s mission of providing free, high-quality health care to underserved populations.
Must have demonstrated a track record of leading and managing in a complex and limited resource environment.
Strong communication, collaboration, and mentoring skills.
Willingness to work in a volunteer-driven, resource-limited environment.
Time Commitment
Approximately 6–10 hours per month, flexible schedule.
Combination of on-site, remote, and meeting participation.
Compensation
This is a volunteer position.
